HP inkjet printer in sub-Rs 5,000 category

Bangalore : In a move that would ensure Hewlett-Packard India (HP) a presence in all segments of the printer market, the multinational outfit has launched a inkjet printer, HP Deskjet 630C, in the sub-Rs 5000 category. HP aims to garner a 60 per cent market share in this category within the next three months, according to HP market development manager for deskjets and scanjets Princy Bhatnagar. About 7000 to 8000 printers are estimated to be sold every month in the sub-Rs 5000 segment and this niche consitutes 13 per cent of the total printer market in India.The product will focus on the up-country markets and with this focus HP has set up an `up-country market development fund'. The fund would be utilised to familiarise end-users about HP products through road shows and other end-user events such as education fairs, etc. The trade channel would also be targeted for increased sales of HP products. The inkjet market is expected to post a growth of 60 per cent annually with metros growing at the rate of 35 per cent and non-metros at a much faster pace. HP plans to aggressively market its scanners. "Scanner use is fuelled by Internet growth", says Mr Bhatnagar. The scanner range which is priced Rs 5200 upwards, has Internet-friendly features such as scanning onto the Web. HP plans to target metros and large cities for the sale of this product.The company has also introduced an `All-in-one' product which combines a fax, printer, scanner and copier.
