US B2B e-commerce company agribuys.com has set up its wholly-owned subsidiary Agribuys (India) Pvt Limited. In the first phase, the focus of agribuy's Indian operations will be on expanding the technology development centre. This will be followed by establishment of agribuy's market operations in India for developing both global trade and trade within the country over the Web, Ms Marina Kotsianas, founder, president and CEO of the company said.
The company is looking for local partners for entering the Indian market, she said. In the US and Europe, agribuys has alliances with logistic companies, transporters, financial service providers, testing and certification authorities and suppliers. "We will be following the similar pattern in India. There will be tie-ups and if need be equity participation also with Indian companies," Ms Kotsianas indicated. Among the areas the company is likely to get into first in India would be seafood and spice exports to America, Canada and Australia.
However, the initial focus of the Indian operations will be on expanding the technology development centre. In a couple of months, the number of people in the development centre in Pune is expected to reach 125 and this figure would go up to a 1,000 in two to three years time, Dhruba Kalita, co-founder, CTO and executive vice president of agribuys said.
