India's weightage in MSCI index to go down by 0.1 per cent
Our Markets Bureau
Mumbai, Nov 7: India's weightage in the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) emerging markets Free (EMF) Index is likely to be affected marginally by 0.1 per cent, coming down from 6.9 per cent to 6.8 per cent following increase in the inclusion weight of the MSCI Taiwan Index. The Taiwan weightage was increased from 65 per cent to 80 per cent of its total market capitalisation last night by the global investment banker. Due to the increase in weightage of Taiwanese index, there has been a marginal fall in India's weightage, which was revised early this year. "This marginal fall is not likely to affect Indian equity market. Fund managers tracking the MSCI index are not likely to shift their portfolio following this marginal change," ASK Raymond James chief executive John Band told The Financial Express here on Tuesday. The development also did not have any impact on the domestic stock markets on Tuesday, as reflected by the rise of 23 points in the benchmark BSE Sensex.
