GDR Software joins hands with AT&T

Mini K Joseph
Bangalore : The Bangalore-based GDR Software has tied-up with AT&T to work in the areas of geographic information system mapping and political boundaries geo-positioning of all the countries across the world, according to the company's director (marketing) N Shankar.

Mr Shankar told The Financial Express that the company would be concentrating on areas including network distribution systems, telephonic and power utilities and cable TV details.

Mr Shankar said, the company was targeting to become one of the top five GIS players in India before the turn of the current fiscal. Other major GIS firms in the country include, Rolta India (Mumbai), Infotek Enterprises (Hyderabad) and Ramtek (Delhi) and TCS.

He said, hitherto the company was mainly focusing on the Middle East and Indian markets and henceforth it would seriously look at European markets as well, he said.

To this end, the company was in talks with Singapore Telecom for GIS projects. ``We will close this deal by November-end,'' he said. The company also was in the process of bidding for Singapore power grid - Grid Technologies.

Along with its Australian strategic partner - Spatial Info -, GDR Software would bid for GIS firms in the Middle East, he said. The companies were also in talks with Ministry of Electricity and Water of Oman.

GDR Software recently participated in the Geo Asia Pacific Trade show held in Bangkok along with Spatial. Recently, the company set up a competency centre for Spatial Info in Bangalore.

Mr Shankar said the company has recently signed an agreement with the Amsterdam-based Far Consolidated for Internet & Web technology and GIS projects. The company would appoint an on site resident representative for Far Consolidated.

During the fiscal, GDR Software was targeting a turnover of Rs 15 crore against Rs 6 crore last year. The company recently set up its subsidiary in the US and by March next year the office would have a strength of 50.
