Freight rates for a nine-tonne truck load to a few northern states including Haryana, Delhi and Punjab succumbed to declining cargo movement and fell by around Rs 500. The rates to other states in the northern region remained stable though remaining under pressure, with the exception of Bihar, as rates to the state increased by around Rs 300-1,000 following a severe shortage of vehicles.The truck rates may remain stable in the coming week, according to transport operators as the cargo movement has ebbed to its post-Diwali low. Last week, rates to northern states such as Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh continued to remain steady, however, freight rates to Delhi and its neighbouring states Haryana and Punjab fell by Rs 500 each.
The rates to Delhi settled at Rs 13,500 per trip, while truck rates to Uttar Pradesh remained steady. However, rates to Bihar went up by Rs 300-1,000 because of shortage of vehicles. In the west, the freight rates to most of the states remained stable.
In Gujarat, the rates to Ahmedabad was at Rs 5,200 while those to Surat was at Rs 4,000. Rates to Indore in Madhya Pradesh was at Rs 6,500. The rates to Jaipur in Rajasthan remained at Rs 11,500 while those to most places in Maharashtra was steady. In the east, the rates remained range bound. While rates to Guwahati fell by Rs 1,000 to Rs 34,000, the rates to Calcutta was up by Rs 2,000 to Rs 23,000. The rates to Raniganj was up by Rs 2,000 to Rs 22,000.
The rates to Orissa were up marginally. Freight rates to southern cities remained stable last week. While rates to Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh was Rs 7,500 while rates to Bangalore was at Rs 10,500. The freight rates to Chennai were steady at Rs 13,000 and those to Cochin was at Rs 15,500.
