TechnoCampus to launch Young Software Developer

Our eFE Bureau
Calcutta : Technocampus, the educational service wing of Globsyn Technoloies Ltd, has decided to introduce a two-year course in software development called the Young Software Developer. The company and its franchisees will invest around Rs 30 crore on the course, which will be introduced in the first half of next year to coincide with the new academic session of schools and colleges.

According to Mr Sunit K Marwah, vice-president for education (operations), the course is aimed at school-leaving students as well as first and second year students.

The two-year course will cost Rs 60,000 and will be available in all the 11 TechnoCampus branches located all over the country. The course will also be introduced in two foreign locations - Dubai and Bangladesh.

There will be a national entrance test to be conducted by the Indian Institute of Psychometry. Applicants must have a first division in the school leaving examination. The intake will be around 60 students per center.

"The structure of the course will suit students who want to pursue their graduation while becoming a developer. Our aim is to arm the students with software skill sets that will help them enter the software jobs market," said Mr Marwah.

"The syllabus of YSD will religiously follow the hot trends of software applications and technology," he said. The students will be trained in client-server environment, Internet related technologies and operating systems like Windows and Linux.

The interesting part is the omission of the IBM environment in the whole syllabus. Even IBM database software DB2 is not included. Oracle and SQL will form the core of database teaching When TechnoCampus was first launched in 1987, it started with the concept of a software finishing school through the launch of the Young Software Manager (YSM) course. The YSM has remained the flagship brand of TechnoCampus.
