BSNL selects Alcatel's DWDM equipment

Calcutta: Alcatel announced that it has made an entry in the DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology in India by being selected as the best bidder in the DWDM equipment tender by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL). According to the press release, beside Alcatel, nine other companies from various countries participated in the bid.BSNL had called tenders early this year as a first step towards deploying new SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), DWDM and optical line termination multiplexing equipment. "We are proud to contribute to BSNL's rapid network infrastructure development having been selected to supply the first DWDM link in the country," said Mr Christian Lacroix, Alcatel's country head for India. According to Alcatel, a report from RHK, a leading telecommunications analyst firm, shows that the company holds a 23 per cent in the total transport market, which comprises submarine and terrestrial transmission systems.
