Our Economic Bureau
New Delhi, Nov 18: The Cabinet secretary will now have to play the role of an umpire in all inter-ministerial wrangles pertaining to divestment. "The cabinet secretary would look into the matter whenever there are any roadblocks or issues involving various ministries or departments," divestment minister Arun Shourie said.Such intervention may be required in complicated cases, like in the case of ITDC divestment, he said. Some leased documents are not in order. Then in some case, the land belongs to the state government. Divestment in Hotel Corporation of India is yet another example, where the land belongs to the Airports Authority of India. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
