Mumbai: Sony Entertainment Television has strategically decided not to pitch its game show Chhapad Phad Ke against Star Plus's Kaun Banega Crorepati by slotting it at 8-9 pm. The show, however, will compete against Zee TV's Sawaal Dus Crore Ka only on one day. Chhapad Phad Ke, sources said, will be aired four times a week, from Friday to Monday. Sony plans to launch the show, hosted by movie star Govinda, within the second week of January. "By putting it on the later half of the week and a separate time band, Sony hopes to run away free from competition. The show on weekends could be an interesting strategy," the source added. Sony has also finalised the format of the game show. Noted online multi-camera producer and director Mr Ajay Kapoor will direct the show which has a "quiz and fun" format. The show will open with 11 participants, all linked to a buzzer. The host will pose the first question in the form of a "Who am I?" He will give one clue after another. The participant who presses the buzzer first and answers correctly will be invited to the hot seat. The host, Govinda, will welcome the qualifier by presenting the person with four gold coins which could be traded for the four helplines. If the participant does not use the helplines, then the gold coins are theirs to keep. There are five levels of contest. When the participant answers all four questions in Level 1, he/her will collect Rs 1,2001. The participant gets to keep Rs 12,000 and the extra rupee entitles the person to go shopping with the host and buy goods valued at a minimum of Rs 30,000.
The minimum guarantee for a participant who manages to answer even the first question correctly is Rs 3,001 and the gold coins. When a participant successfully cracks Level 2, he/she collects Rs 1,20,001. The participant gets to keep the amount and the "extra one rupee" entitles the person to another shopping spree worth Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. If a participant manages to answer the fifth question correctly and falters before question eight, the participant still leaves the game with at least Rs 1,2001, the shopping goods and the gold coins.
In Level 3, the participant keeps 20,00,000 at question 12 and for Rs 1 goes shopping for a car. The minimum guarantee is Rs 120,001 and the gold mohur. At question 15 in Level 4, the participant keeps Rs 1 crore and trades Rs 1.
The host gives him the question and if he answers right then he earns Rs 2 crore plus Rs 1. If he doesn't, he goes out of the game with Rs one crore. In Level 5, the participant gets Rs 6 crore at question 20 and Rs 5 crore at question 19.
The format of the questions offers the participant four options to choose from. The questions are phrased in an "odd one out" manner. Questions in Level 2 and Level 3 have three answers that belong to it and one that does not. The helplines facility allows the participant to ask the host to ignore the questions given and opts to get a question from the common man on the street. The participant asks the host to ignore the question and gives his choice of subject from which the question should be asked. If the participant has any doubt in the answer, he/she can choose two of the four given choices and if any of the two is the correct answer, he qualifies to play further. The main colours of the set will be in cream and gold, sources said. The gold coins will form a motif on the set. It will have four distinct areas: game, shopping, car display and audience.
There is a contest for the viewers, too. Two sets of questions will be asked in week 1 and week 2, respectively, at any time during the show. In week three, the viewers will respond to the contest. The host will announce the winner of the flat in week 4. In 52 weeks, there would be 12 houses given away to 12 lucky winners, the source said. Videocon is paying Rs 7 crore for 50 episodes to co-sponsor the show, he added.
