New Delhi : As part of its global initiative in the telecom business Enron Broadband Services (EBS) would soon introduce high-speed data centres across India which would allow corporates, media and entertainment companies and ISPs high-speed data transfers.Speaking to The Financial Express, Sanjay Bhantnagar who has recently been appointed as the CEO of EBS for Asia, Middle-east and Australia said that the first of these centres would be launched in Mumbai by January, 2001.In the telecoms business, EBS in India would engage in bandwidth trading through their data centres as well as provide video on demand for their users. Apart from this, Enron would also distribute content such as full length feature films through the Internet. Enron in the US has already tied up with "Blockbuster" for providing this content on the internet, Mr Bhatnagar elaborated.
Mr Bhantnagar said that Enron would be using its BOS technology, which was jointly developed with Sun Micro systems. This technology has been developed for Enron for their "Enron Intelligent Network" which envisages interconnecting the entire globe through its network.
Enron would be using its own satellite agreements for the international gateway. Mr Bhatnagar said that the EBS service would not be limited by the access provided by VSNL. Even though Mr Bhatnagar refused to divulge the investment amount for introducing these services, he said that Enron would be looking at tie-ups with ISPs such as Spectranet, down the line. After Mumbai, Enron would be introducing these data centres in other metros and cities such as Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi.
