Weavers observe token fast
The All Handloom Weavers and Handloom Manufacturers Associations' Joint Action Council observed a token fast here demanding immediate ban on the export of cotton yarn. The weavers said in a statement that recently the government had permitted the export of Rs 8,000 crore worth of cotton yarn, leading to shortage of yarn for the handloom and powerloom sector, in which five cr workers were employed. They said the yarn price had been increased steeply by the mill owners and merchants who used cotton scarcity and export as excuses.LPG dealers urge further subsidy cuts Parallel
LPG cylinder manufacturers and marketeers demanded a further reduction in subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders, as their misuse for commercial purposes was adversely affecting them. "The misuse of domestic LPG cyliners for commercial purposes is adversely affecting parallel LPG cylinder manufactuers and marketeers, some of them are facing closure due to massive illegal bottling," Association of Parallel LPG Marketeers and Consumers said in a statement here.
Frost affects TN tea production
Tea production by the state owned Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation Ltd (TANTEA) is expected to drop by 10 per cent this year, due to frost conditions in the Nilgiris belt. While production of TANTEA was around 11 mn kgs last year, it might not even cross 10 mn kgs this year.
ICMA to issue certificate of origin
The ministry of commerce and industry, has authorised Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association (ICMA) to issue certificate of origin, which is important to exporters.
