Mumbai: Parametric Technologies (India) Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTC, USA, plans to hold its third user meet from January 18-20 in Bangalore. Interestingly, the company has mooted the idea of floating an independent Pro User Group among its client base. The company plans to initiate the process of forming a Pro User Group for the Discrete Manufacturing sector (this would include the automotive, consumer goods, industrial equipment and general manufacturing sectors). "While Parametric has introduced the concept of a Pro User Group through its meets over the last couple of years, we would really like to see the users take the lead in forming a body themselves. We have sent out communication to this effect among the participants and the response is very positive" says Mr Kishore Rao, managing director, PTC India. Parametric's users in India include Telco, Eicher, Bajaj, Videocon, Whirlpool, BPL, TVS Group, LML, Bhel among several others. The customers number about 600, according to Mr Rao.The user group can be used to obtain feedback for sectors like hardware and networking as well, according to Mr Rao. "At a Parametric user meet what typically happens is we brief them on our products and then they make presentations on their feedback on our products", explains Mr Rao. He expects about 800 attenders at this user meet. Parametric hopes to set in motion the process of formulating an independent user group on the second day of the user meet this year. Independent user groups like these are in existence in the US, UK, Japan, Germany and France. "Typically the group has a president and general secretary to oversee the entire group and then steering committee members who head the sub groups for specific sectors" says Mr Rao. Explaining the relevance of these groups to software, hardware and networking companies, Mr Rao says, "Customers actually outline what they would like to see in the next version of a particular software and we ask them to prioritise their needs so that we can deliver on these realistically". Parametric has asked each customer/company to nominate one member who will participate in the meeting to set up an independent user body. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
