In the second meeting of the National Advisory Committee with the IT minister on Monday, industry leaders raised concern over the shortage of skilled manpower in the IT sector and the poor availability of communication infrastructure like bandwidth in the country.Discussing about promoting the hardware sector in the country, it was recommended that special areas should be identified to set up export- oriented hardware units to make India a more conducive hardware manufacturing destination.
To take care of the manpower crises, it was suggested that a joint trust of the government and industry should be set up to fund higher education in the country. The conversion of existing IITs into deemed universities and setting up privately-funded deemed universities was also discussed. The sources said that it was indicated by the officials that a bandwidth of 2.5 gbps will be made available in 165 cities in India.
