New Delhi : Intel, the world leader in microprocessors, will launch its new versions of PC processors: Pentium 4 2 GHz and Pentium III 1+ GHx in the second half of this year. The company is also working on a new chipset code named as Brookdale for Pentium 4 to upgrade the bus speed to optimise microprocessors' performance. The company will also come out with next two versions of its Itanium microprocessor made for servers and called Pentium III Xeon. The new processors code named as Foster and McKinley are expected to come to the market by the end of 2001 and in early 2002 respectively. Besides, the company will also offer new processors range for Notebook PCs in next 2-3 months. Discussing the roadmap of Intel processors, Mr Jeff Krisha, desktop platform regional manager, Intel A-PAC said that the company is also working towards developing next version of microprocessors for PDAs and hand-held devices. Mr Krisha said that Intel is focussing its research and developement efforts on microprocessors in two major areas. The first is trageted to semiconductor technology and working towards shrinking the transistor size to reduce cost and improve performance.
The next focus area involves devolves developing less power consuming and higher performance microprocessors for mobile PCs and working towards bring more data security to the notebook data.
Intel is developing Intel Protected Access Architecture providing pre-boot security based on finger prints and smart cards etc. This will make a stolen notebook as 'valuable as brick', he said.
