Infosys to set up mega software development centre in Bangalore

Bangalore : Indian software export major Infosys Technologies Limited is setting up a big software development complex in the city to employ 7,129 people. The high level committee of the state industries department on Thursday cleared the proposal from Infosys. The centre to come up on a 100-acre plot at a cost of Rs 618 crore, is said to be the biggest software complex in the world.

The company has seventeen state of the art offshore development facilities in various parts of the country and a global development centre in Canada. The new complex will substantially augment its infrastructure by establishing a large software development centre. Briefing newsmen state major and medium industries minister RV Deshpande said that the committee in its meeting on Wednesday had cleared six projects, including that of Infosys, with a total investment of Rs 4,501 crore generating employment opportunities for 20,326 people. It included a proposal from the multinational Motorola for setting up a software development centre with an initial investment of Rs 76.61 crore. The company had proposed a further investment of Rs 126 crore in the second phase of expansion. Other projects included an expansion of Bharat Electronics Limited, which planned to invest Rs 130.47 crore to manufacture motherboards for personal computers, electronic voting machines, silicon wagers, integrated circuit designs and linecircuit cards.
