Mumbai : Bullion: Gold prices eased further while silver bounced back from the lower level on the bullion market here during the last week.Standard gold fell from Rs 4,475 to Rs 4,430 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was down from Rs 4,140 to Rs 4,100 per 10 gm in sympathy. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) crashed from Rs 52,250 to Rs 51,800 per piece. At one stage, biscuit prices dropped to Rs 51,600, according to a broker. Physical buying for gold remain at a low ebb despite conclusion of unauspicious period according to the Hindu calendar, he added. Weak dollar value against rupee and news of a bearish global market, prompted steady offerings among stockists and local bankers here. Dollar prices fell from Rs 46.63 to Rs 46.38. In the overseas market gold fell from $265.50 to $262.50 (16 month's lowest level) before settling at $265 per troy ounce. The yellow metal remained under pressure ahead of fresh auction of 25 tonne of gold by Bank of England which is scheduled on Monday, it was learnt.
Meanwhile silver .999 bounced back from Rs 7,625 to Rs 7,855 per kg. Silver .916 was up from Rs 7,525 to Rs 7,740 per kg. Seasonal buying for silver was slow, but traders reported brisk industrial demand at lower levels while eased supplies of raw silver and firm Delhi as well as overseas advices kept offerings limited during the week. In the global market silver moved up from $4.54 to $4.84 per troy ounce.
OIL, OILSEEDS: Groundnut oil moved in both ways but closed lower on the oil, oilseeds market here during last week. Castorseed and its oil recovered some of the recent losses on the back of brisk covering by bears and shippers amidst renewed overseas enquiries.
Groundnut oil earlier climbed from Rs 312 to Rs 315 on festival buying, but later continued new crop supplies pushed prices down to Rs 316 per 10 kg. In Rajkot prices closed lower from Rs 530/535 to Rs 520/525 per 15 kg, it was learnt.
Imported palmoil moved in a narrow band and placed steady at Rs 196 per 10 kg. Traders reported fresh supplies of about 55,000/60,000 tonne of imported soya oil and sun oil at Mumbai port during the week. In the global market palmoil maintained at $220 per tonne for nearby delivery and long deliveries were quoted at $227.50/235 per tonne, it was learnt.
Castor oil moved in both ways and settled a rupee higher at Rs 281/293 per 10 kg on overseas support, and light covering by shippers. Castorseed ready were quoted Rs 5 higher at Rs 1,255 per quintal in sympathy.
In the futures section castorseed February delivery shot up from Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,277 per quintal on brisk covering by bears in the wake of an upsurge in the ready prices. Castorseed February delivery shot up from Rs 292 to Rs 301 before placing at Rs 298 per 10 kg. Trading in the palmolien forward market however more-or-less remained absent during the week.
In Ahmedabad castorseed February delivery ruled firm at Rs 1,235.50 and April delivery at Rs 1,266 per quintal. Castorseed spot prices changed hands at Rs 240/245 per 20 kg. Castorseed at Rs 268/270 per 10 kg in Gujarat. Daily inflow of castorseed in Gujarat at the later stage of the week was 24,000/25,000 bags as against earlier average of 28,000/30,000 bags, it was said.
