In keeping with the new paradigm shift, Bharti Cellular Ltd is looking beyond the cellular price war. The cellular services provider is expected to develop offerings around location-based services and Intelligent Network (IN) platform. ``Beginning April, we'll start offering applications based on the IN platform,'' says Mr Kapoor. ``Even our WAP services, seen as a transition towards wireless Internet, will receive boost with GPRS becoming a reality next fiscal.''Mr Kapoor says that it'll be the quality of value-added services, besides network and customer care approach, that will let the company maintain its dominance in Delhi. ``We've identified GPRS and wireless Internet services as critical long-term properties,'' says he. ``We're developing a range of new GPRS applications and will also enhance our alliance network of 25 WAP partners and add more exciting content.''
Bharti to focus on location-based services
Bharti Cellular expects its new tariff options to boost air-time usage per subscriber and bring an increased number of consumers to its network. ``Revenues may take a dip this fiscal but an enhanced customer base - preferably a growth rate of over 50 per cent - and a high usage pattern should offset this loss by next fiscal.''
Bharti Cellular expects the new tariff options, which have been kept marginally higher than competition, to explode the market. ``In the new revised tariff we've taken care to protect the interest of the consumers who opt for the Rs 1-a-minute in-coming call option,'' says Mr Kapoor. Earlier, Bharti had three price options in post-paid category with AirTel Easy package (Rs 3 per 30 seconds and Rs 1 per 30 sec for outgoing and incoming calls respectively plus rental of Rs 525) accounting for around half of revenues.
Bharti Cellular commands 60.7 per cent share of the Delhi cellular market in volume terms (according to figures submitted to DoT in December 2000, Airtel has 273,262 subscribers in December) and 63 per cent share of the market value-wise.
