Mumbai: "The focus of my plan is on increasing the customer base, creating new ones, finding new revenue streams and offering clients additional services from Datamatics," says Mr Richard J Orlando the newly appointed president and Chief Executive Officer of the Boston-based Saztec International Inc (a part of Datamatics US). "I am 20 days old in this company, and the first thing on my agenda is to talk to as many of Saztec's customers and see what needs to be improved," he adds. Saztec was recently acquired by Datamatics and is one of the first few acquisitions by an Indian company of a Nasdaq listed entity. The company's newly appointed CEO has been involved with the knowledge management industry for about 20 years and his last position was with Myway.com, a subsidiary of CMGI. Saztec, is currently offering two services of Datamatics namely, knowledge management and digital content creation. "For our new customers we will offer them the current services in addition to some of the other services, which wereso far not offered. These services include software maintenance, providing GIS (geographical information systems) and e-books." Mr Orlando who is currently in India to get a first hand view of the parent company - Datamatics, is visiting its various offices. The aim of this trip to Datamatics, is to understand the company's capability and determine which of these capabilities can be offered in the US, before setting up a specific action plan. "We want to strengthen the areas in which we are already working. The strategic reason was to offer a broader range of remote services to the US market." On the changes of the company post-acquisition, Mr Orlando said that there would be minor changes within the existing business and the bigger changes would be in terms of adding the resources for sales and marketing.Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
