Mumbai, Jan 21 : Chematek India Pvt Ltd, the Indian affiliate of ChemateK Spa, Italy is looking forward to foray into the Indian market with products related to the petroleum and petrochemicals sector.The company, with an extensive range of second generation fuel additives, specialty chemicals and biotechnology products, are in an advanced stage of negotiations with Indian petroleum and petrochemical majors to supply these products.
According to ChemateK country manager Jawahar Thadhani: "We have come up with a second generation fuel additives for diesel fuels and gasoline like cetane improvers and multifunctional fuel additives (MFA). We are in talks with various companies like Reliance Petroleum (RPL), Hindustan Petroleum Company, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and I think our first deal will be struck with RPL."
The present requirement of cetane improver of RPL is around 1,800 metric tonne per annum. RPL also requires around 40 metric tonne of MFA per annum.Mr Thadhani added: "If the deal goes through, the company will be supplying the cetane additives to RPL within the next two months. We will be supplying the proposed product and also the optimistic package coupled with the new technology."
ChemateK is also talking to various Indian companies on the testing and approval of new generation MFA based on synthetic components. The prevalent approval system in India is based on twin ambassador carborator test done by the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun and IOC R&D Centre, Faridabad.However, in view of the introduction of new generation cars in India, it is necessary to use advanced test engines for enhancing multi-functional fuel additives. "At present, the company is waiting for the testing procedure to get finalised. The future MFA have to be formulated to take into account the sophisticated automotive engines which have already entered the Indian market," he said.
The company has also come up with polymeric modifiers of modified bitumen. and is presently in talks with National Highway Authority of India and Road Research Institute, Delhi.
According to Mr Thadhani: "The bitumen, properly modified, provides strength and stability required by heavy traffic. Polymeric materials are the most promising bitumen modifiers to get improved technological properties." ChemateK will also be introducing eco-friendly biotechnologies to the Indian market. The company will unveil eco-friendly biosurfactants for cleaning hydrocarbon storage tank sediments in crude oil and heavy fuel storage tanks. The company is also proposing to market fuel additive to heavy fuel oils which can lead to fuel stroke energy conservation and also reduce environmental pollution.
