New Delhi, Jan 21: Cisco Systems on Sunday announced commissioning of its high-end Gigabit Switch routers by the state-owned Internet Service Provider (ISP), Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) to deliver high-speed, ultra flexible dedicated links for the internet.The routers, deployed at VSNL's Mumbai office, will be linked with Gigabit ethernet to the high-speed core and boundary routers in VSNL's network, a Cisco statament said here adding the Gigabit switching facility will link Mumbai-VSB with high-speed internet nodes at Cochin, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.
The statament said that commissioning of the new switching system makes available for the first time in India high-speed optical fibre connectivity in India.
"VSNL is by far the largest ISP in the country and has been experiencing fast growth in its subscriber base.
The Gigabit Switch Router is a significant development milestone for the Indian market," head (service provider sales) Cisco Systems, Naresh Wadhwa said.
