Compaq shifting focus to equity partnership

Mumbai : COMPAQ plans to identify and pick equity stakes in various kinds of IT and telecom service providers this year. Speaking to eFE, Mr Balu Doraiswamy, managing director, Compaq India, said that the company will be shifting its focus from strategic partnerships to equity partnerships, by the middle of this year will be targeting the service provider market. Compaq is also in discussions with financial institutions who can bring the capital component to these deals. Compaq on its part will focus on the technology inputs according to Mr Doraiswamy. Commenting on the stake that Compaq would have in these investee companies Mr Doraiswamy said: "if we do get involved it would be a minority stake". He further added: "When a company such as ours gets involved in equity partnerships, the concentration is more on providing infrastructure support rather than cash. We prefer providing infrastructure support in terms of bringing services and storage solutions which will enable a start-up to kick start thebusiness."
