New code -- Domestic market to be key revenue driver for Wipro Infotech

Kavitha Rajasekhar
Bangalore : From historically being a hardware company, focused on products and services (based on the products), Wipro Infotech - the Indian IT products and services arm of the homegrown infotech giant Wipro Ltd - is all set for a new `organic growth' plan charted out on a four-year growth trajectory. Unlike most other software companies, while Wipro has always had a significant proportion of revenues coming from the domestic market, the aim now is to ramp up this part of the ratio. According to the bullish Suresh Vaswani, president of Wipro Infotech Business, this shift in focus and the following initiatives would catapult the IT major to a dominant position in the domestic market as well.

While Wipro's global IT and solutions arm - Wipro Technologies has been witnessing some restructuring of divisions, it is now the turn of the India-focused Infotech business to pan out into three strategic business areas -- products, solutions and services -- each of which would build up its practice independently. As per the plan, some of the new business areas the company is extensively looking at include facilities management, end-to end managed services/availability services, value-added services for the service provider market, building up expertise in the optic fibre area, e-security solutions, etc. Revealing the new strategy to The Financial Express, Mr Vaswani said the business was moving into a phase where it would be an end-to-end services organisation in the domestic market as well. With the growth the Indian IT industry has been posting, the domestic requirements on the technology front have been getting increasingly complex.
