FIT to showcase Indian IT players at key European Union meet

Bangalore : Indo-european business match-maker France India Trade (FIT), which has established itself in the European Union, is gearing up to showcase Indian IT players at a large e-commerce buyer-seller in Lille, France, scheduled for end-May. The meet will have 90 of Europe's largest corporations from retail, banking, insurance, automobiles and communications, interacting with as many as 450 ecommerce vendors from across the continent and, through this initiative, with a clutch of Indian companies. The `e-novation meet', an EU initiative under its International Business Exhibition (IBEX) programme, is being organised by the Lille Metropole Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with the European Commission, the French government, Nord Pas Calais Development, the Nord General Council and the Urban Community of Metropolitan Lille.FIT chief executive officer Tobby Simon told media persons in Bangalore on Monday that considering the low penetration of Indian companies in the European software market and the high threshold for entry, the event would provide them an opportunity to interface with prospective customers one-on-one. The European majors shopping for technology partners at `enovation' include Credit Agricole, Banque Scalbert, Lyonnaise Bank, Carrefour, Auchan, Leroy Merlin, Decatholon, Bolanger, Renault, Peugeot, AXA, Le Mondiale, Thomson and Ericsson, 3 Suisses and La Redoute. Key technology areas of interest at the meet will include supply chain management, e-marketing, services and applications, e-CRM, e-procurement, infrastructure and hardware, payment solutions, extranet and secure exchanges. The 90 large companies will draw up a preliminary list of innovative companies best adapted to their projects using a specific matching method. All suppliers who wish to participate in the event are required to be pre-qualifiedthrough a stringent validation process. FIT has already shortlisted around 18 companies to go for pre-qualification and will undertake validation of their credentials. Pre-qualification for this meet will also open doors in the European market for Indian companies that make the grade. The `e-novation' meet will help the Indian companies network with not merely the large corporates but also the suppliers presenting further business opportunities, according to Mr Simon. FIT also plans pre-arranged meetings that could result in business materialising at the convention itself, he said. The company has been allotted a sizeable pavilion to accommodate Indian participants. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
