Siemens Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 15.8 crore for the quarter ended December 31,2000 a rise of over 177 per cent as compared to Rs 5.69 crore for the same quarter last year. Net sales for the quarter declined 5.7 per cent to Rs 214.54 crore as against 227.59 crore in the same period last year. Other income for the period stood at Rs 23.16 crore as against Rs 12.77 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.Sundaram-Clayton net down 78.5%
The net profit of Chennai-based Sundaram-Clayton Ltd has dropped by 78.50 per cent at Rs 1.99 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2000, as against Rs 9.26 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year. Sales also decreased by 8.17 per cent at Rs 59.35 crore, compared to Rs 64.63 crore in the third quarter of 1999. While its profit before tax fell to Rs 2.38 crore (Rs 11.84 crore), consumption of raw materials, staff costs and other expenditure increased to Rs 31.09 crore (Rs 30.59 crore), Rs 8.13 crore (Rs 7.92 crore) and Rs 17.13 crore (Rs 16.36) respectively.
Zydus Cadila net up 78%
Zydus Cadila has reported 78 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 17.45 crore during third quarter ended December-2000 against Rs 9.79 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year. The company's sales stood at Rs 117.09 crore. With this, the company has already touched a sales turnover of Rs 394.93 crore and profit after tax of Rs 55.10 crore for the nine month period between April and December 2000. During this period, the company has launched various new products in pain management and cardiovascular areas.
Sundaram Brake Lining Q3 net at Rs 1.7 crore
Sundaram Brake Lining has reported a total sales of Rs 20.55 crore for the third quarter ended December 2000, as against Rs 21.85 crore during the corresponding quarter last year. Net profit was lower at Rs 1.71 crore (Rs 2.45 crore). Total expenditure was at Rs 17.06 crore (Rs 17.68 crore). Paid-up equity share capital remained unchanged at Rs 2.71 crore. Earnings per share for the quarter (not annualised) stood at Rs 6.31.
Compudyne Q3 net zooms 288%
Bangalore-based Compudyne Winfosytems has achieved a sales turnover of Rs 6.91 crore for the three months ended December 31, registering 297 per cent growth against Rs 1.65 crore during the corresponding period last year. During the quarter, the company's net profit rose to Rs 1.90 crore (Rs 49.02 lakh) registering a 288 per cent growth.
Madras Aluminum posts Rs 10.89 cr Q3 profits
Madras Aluminium Company has reported a net profit of Rs 10.89 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2000, as against Rs 60 lakh in the same quarter last year. Net sales increased from Rs 43.6 crore in third quarter of the last year as against Rs 79.73 crore in the current fiscal. Other income for the quarter stood at Rs 1.02 crore third quarter this fiscal as compared to Rs 2 crore in the same quarter last year, profits for the third quarter in the previous fiscal were lower according to the company due to stabilisation of captive power plant units.
PNB's net dips 11% to Rs 341.52 cr
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has recorded a dip of 11.34 per cent in its net profit at Rs 341.52 crore during April-December 2000, mainly due to the Rs 321 crore pro-rata requirement for its ongoing voluntary retirement scheme. The bank profits was eroded by a staggering 34.47 percent rise in provisioning - Rs. 513.48 crore towards income and wealth tax, Non-Performing Assets (NPAs), gratuity, bonus, pension, and depreciation compared to Rs 381.86 crore in the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
Dalmia Cement turnover inches up
Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited has reported an increase in net sales to Rs 95.23 crore, as against Rs 83.86 crore during the corresponding quarter last year. Net profit was marginally lower at Rs 3.21 crore (Rs 3.28 crore). Interest costs accounted for Rs 7.88 crore (Rs 7.15 crore). Depreciation was at Rs 5.33 crore (Rs 5.03 crore). Earning per share for the quarter was at Rs 4.20. For the nine months ended December 2000, the company has reported a net sales of Rs 305.94 crore and net profit of Rs 19.67 crore.
GNFC Q3 net rise 48%
Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Co Ltd (GNFC) has posted a 48 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 28.62 crore during the last quarter ended December 2000 as compared to Rs 19.34 crore the corresponding period last fiscal. The fertiliser major has also registered a 47 per cent jump in Profit Before Tax (PBT) to Rs 39.01 crore from Rs 26.54 crore over the same period. However, net income from sales and other operations registered a modest increase of 3.64 per cent during last Q3 to Rs 374.10 crore from Rs 361.08 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.
Havell's Group Q3 net surges 130%
Havell's Group has reported a 130 per cent spurt in earnings to Rs 3.06 crore for the quarter ended December 2000, up from Rs 1.34 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of last year. Turnover during the quarter grew by 53.89 per cent to Rs 42.09 crore, up from Rs 27.44 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of last year. Increased sales in the domestic market as well as higher penetration of international markets through exports led to the improved performance. Ajanta Pharma posts Rs 1.58 crore netAjanta Pharma has posted a net profit of Rs 1.50 crore for the quarter ended December 2000 as against Rs 2.26 crore for the corresponding quarter. Turnover for the period declined to Rs 20.94 crore from Rs 35.60 crore.
Crompton Greaves posts Rs 37.14 crore loss
Crompton Greaves has reported a a net loss of Rs 37.14 crore in the third quarter ended of the current fiscal as against 40.6 crore in the same period last year. Sales declined from Rs 337.37 crore last year to Rs 297.22 crore in the third quarter ended 31 December 2000, a drop of 11.91 per cent. Other income for the quarter stood at Rs 1.91 crore as against Rs 8.47 crore in the third quarter last year. The extra-ordinary items for the quarter ended December 31, 2000 represents an income of Rs 22.7 crore being the net surplus on the transfer of business of low tension control gear unit and faxemail.
Clariant net up 8.6% to Rs 4.77 crore
Clariant India Ltd (CIL) net profit has marginally increased by 8.6 per cent to Rs 4.77 crore in the third quarter ending December 31, 2000 as compared to 4.39 crore in the same period last year. The company's net sales increased by six per cent to Rs 74.11 crore in the reporting quarter as compared to Rs 69.86 crore in the Q3 1999.
Cosmo Films posts Rs 8.3 crore net profits
Cosmo Films has posted a net profit of Rs 2.90 crore for the quarter ended December 2000 as against Rs 2.05 crore for the corresponding quarter last year. During the last nine months of the current fiscal, turnover went up by 30 per cent and net profit went up to Rs 8.33 crore from Rs 2.10 crore, a company release said.
Varun Shipping Q3 net at Rs 3 crore
Varun Shipping recorded a net profit of Rs 3.00 crore for the quarter ended December 2000 as against Rs 1.84 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Total income went up to Rs 51.04 crore from Rs 42.67 crore for the same period. The company has announced February 9, 2001 as the record date for its proposed rights issue of 14 per cent unsecured fully convertible debentures of Rs 10 at par in the ratio 1:1.
