Kolkata/New Delhi, Jan 22: Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 400.2 crore on a total revenue of Rs 2,062 crore for the third quarter of the current fiscal, which are 34 per cent and 23 per cent higher than in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.In the third quarter of the previous fiscal, the country's international telephony behemoth had reported a net profit of Rs 298.4 crore on a total revenue of Rs 1,682 crore. VSNL, which is also the country's largest ISP and holding the licence to operate all over the country, also increased its subscriber base from 322,956 on December 31, 1999 to 557,245 on December 31, 2000, a growth of 73 per cent.
According to the chairman and managing director SK Gupta, the growing subscriber base helped VSNL to increase its revenues from Internet service, despite a cut in Internet lease line and dial-up rates.
