HC asks DPC to compensate affected people

Mumbai, Jan 22: The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Dabhol Power Company (DPC) to deposit two separate set of payment towards project-affected families within a week to the Ratnagiri district collector and special land acquisition officer.Justice RM Lodha, in his judgement on a contempt petition filed by the Anjanwel (Borbatla, Katalwadi) Gramastha Mandal in September 1999, has asked DPC to deposit Rs 18 lakh (Rs 1 lakh each) in lieu of employment not given to 18 project-affected families who have been rendered landless or marginal. He has also directed the DPC to pay Rs 60 lakh on account of ex-gratia not paid to 453 families as per the previous high court orders in this regard delivered in 1994 and 1998.
