Compaq unveils iPAQ Pocket PC

Mumbai : Compaq Computer (India) Pvt Ltd has launched the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC, both the colour and monochrome versions for the Indian market. The colour and monochrome models of the Compaq iPAQ H3650 are priced at Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The products will be available initially through Cooldukaan, Compaq India's online store as well as through Compaq India's distribution channels. The Compaq iPAQ H3630 will soon be available through a number of retail channels to the customers. The introduction of iPAQ pocket PC in the Indian market is the next step in Compaq's vision for providing `anytime anywhere' computing through wireless access devices. Some of the key features of the product are a Microsoft Windows powered pocket PC, single tap interface and easy-to-view TFT colour screen. 32 MB of memory for the colour model and 16 MB for the monochrome model.

The applications loaded include Microsoft Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Outlook, Pocket Internet Explorer, Pocket Money, Microsoft Reader, and Windows Media Player, voice recorder and handwriting recognition. It has an expansion pack system that allows the users to add functionality on the fly by sliding expansion packs on the back of iPAQ. It contains Compaq's exclusive software like Qstart, QMenu, and Qutilities. Mr Sai Chandrasekhar, head, product marketing, CPCG, Compaq (India) says "this device does not replace a desktop, it only supplements it." Compaq is already working on a digital camera, a GPS navigation Pack, Bluetooth Communication Packs and Cellular Technologies (GSM and GPRS) according to company officials who addressed a media conference for the launch of iPAQ.
