Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Jan 23 : The $200-million, DiaMed AG has formed a technology-cum-marketing joint venture (JV) with the Delhi-based, Morepen Laboratories. DiaMed of Switzerland is the leader in blood group serology and specialises in diagnostic products related to blood group serology, haematology, coagulation and infectious diseases for the world market.Under the agreement, Morepen will have exclusive marketing rights in India for internationally acclaimed DiaMed OptiMAL rapid malaria test kits and ID micro typing systems for blood group serology. In the first phase of the JV, Morepen will market the DiaMed kits in India. Morepen, in the second phase, will manufacture the kits in India after setting up reference labo-ratories and the infrastructure.

The DiaMed ID system has become the reference standard in immuno-haematology and the OptiMAL diagnostic test for malaria is an easy to use tool which compares favourably with the gold standard light microscopy method."Morepen's association with DiaMed is an expression of its objective to continuously adopt cutting edge technologies for the well-being and health of all," Morepen Labs chairman and managing director Sushil Suri said. He said that DiaMed is a quality focused organisation with a leadership position in its field.

DiaMed AG's David Bashforth said that India offers a great marketing potential in India and we are very happy to associate.

OptiMAL rapid malaria kit is the only US FDA approved approved kit that detects plasmodium specific lactate dehydrogenase (plDH), a marker protein for malaria detection. ID micro typing system on the other hand is considered to be a major technological advancement over conventional methods for ABO/Rh typing, typing for rare blood groups, antibody screening and identification and cross matching for blood transfusion.
