General Motors shifts service initiatives into top gear

Kumarkaushalam
New Delhi: General Motors India Ltd plans to launch a new service initiative, to be branded as GM Service Plus, in March 2001. The new thrust on service will be aligned with the expansion of distribution network from 34 dealerships and 23 authorised service outlets (ASOs) to 44 dealerships and an equal number of ASOs across the country in the fiscal 2000-01.

Says Mr Rajeev Chaba, vice-president, marketing, General Motors India: ``We hope to finalise our branded dealership service offering by February. The new initiative will enable GM customers to experience a superior level of service.'' Also, to guide consumers through an upscale retail ambience, General Motors is kicking off a subtle uplift of all its dealerships to create `Opel By Design' corners. The `Opel By Design' concept is aimed at demonstrating to visitors the USPs of General Motors brands and facilitate their purchase decision.

Mr Chaba said that GM India will actively counter the perception that GM offers only expensive cars by communicating that Corsa and Astra costs lesser than the customer thinks. ``We've already slashed prices of spare parts by around 25 per cent this year, following our indigenisation drive.''

The new Service plan and `Opel by Design' corners are in line with GM India's strategy to create brand excitement with strategy innovations. Its other customer-centric properties include: Opel Card facility, Opel Carnivals, chauffeur training programmes, Opel mobile road-show caravan, car exchange programme, OK 5-star used car programme, and two-year warranty.
