Rahul Singh in ChandigarhIN order to provide its customers the facility of paying telephone bills via the Internet, ICICI Bank has entered into a strategic agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL). It is for the first time that any bank has entered into such a tie-up with BSNL, in this part of the country. An agreement to this effect was signed by Mr Anand Kumar, regional head of ICICI Bank and Kulbir Singh, director-finance, BSNL, here on Wednesday. "This is an additional channel we are providing to our customers. We are also exploring possibilities of tie-ups with the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) and the Haryana Vidhyut Prasar Nigam (HVPN) for the payment of electricity bills over the Internet," said Mr Anand Kumar. For the payment of bills for other utility services, the bank has tie-ups with MTNL, VSNL, BEST, BPL Mobile and Orange, to name a few. In the case of telephone bills, the billing details will be electronically uploaded on the bank's Website.

The customers will be able to view their billing details on the Internet and pay accordingly by clicking a button. Their account will be debited for the billing amount and the proceeds shall be remitted to the BSNL. After completing the transaction the system will generate a unique transaction ID, which can be used for any future reference. The data of BSNL will be updated electronically. "The bank is targeting at least 500 customers in the first month," Mr Kumar said. This facility is being offered free of cost to the customers.
