Convergence bill draft to be placed on DoT Website
Putting an end to the controversy on where the draft of convergence communication bill 2001 will be put up, Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday announced that the draft would be placed on the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Website. The text of the draft bill is expected to be put on the DoT site by this weekend to get the industry feedback. Pointing out that it can be found at http://communicationbill.dot.nic.in, Mr Paswan said that DoT has sought comments on the draft latest by February 28. The Group of Ministers (GoM) deliberating on this bill recently approved the draft.

Trade2Gain, TCIL sign MoU
Trade2Gain (T2G) has tied up with Transport Corporation of India Limited (TCIL) to offer back-end logistics solutions to online buyers and sellers transacting business on the T2G site. This tie-up will enable T2G to offer TCIL's conventional, XPS Cargo and value added services to its customers.

Portal on Indian tourism launched
Bplnet has developed a comprehensive portal for the ministry of tourism on Indian tourism. The portal was launched in New Delhi on Thursday. The company has invested around Rs 75-80 lakh in the portal and will invest some more funds in maintaining the site in future. However, the company has taken the project for getting recognition in the market as it has not charged any fee from the government.

Sitagita.com, dealwala.com join hands
Sitagita.com has tied up with Dealwala.com, a consumer empowerment site. The tie-up would help Sitagita's browsers get complete information on consumer durables. The partnership would aim to provide comprehensive information on high value consumer products and financial services to help Indian women with their purchase decisions, according to a press release.

CNN to recast production, newsgathering services
Following a major downsizing exercise, CNN has decided to restructure its international newsgathering, production and online services in Asia-Pacific and Europe/Middle-East/Africa. While the restructuring in the Asia-Pacific region will be implemented by Mr Ian Macintosh, who's based in Hong Kong, Mr Tony Maddox will handle the job for Europe/Middle East/Africa from London. Both Mr Macintosh and Mr Maddox have been appointed senior vice-president, CNN International, for their regions. According to rough estimates, around 2,000 people worldwide have already been sacked in CNN. Although the Indian staff is still untouched, the Managing Editor, South Asia, Mr Bill Baggit, is not in the organisation anymore.

Discovery in programming pact with Doordarshan
Discovery Channel and Doordarshan have entered into a strategic programming alliance for DD Metro. As per the agreement, DD Metro will air Discovery programmes Monday through Friday from 12 to 1 p.m, beginning January 29. Elaborating, Mr Kiran Karnik, MD, Discovery Channel, said: ``We are delighted with the tie-up with DD. The Discovery Channel block on DD Metro will provide DD audiences an opportunity to experience moments of wonder and witness spectacular events."

NRI Network Corporation to launch NRIworld magazine
The NRI Network Corporation, a company established to communicate with the 17 million strong NRI community the world over, primarily via the Internet, will shortly be launching NRIworld, a magazine dedicated to profiling successful NRIs. The special issue will be launched on January 26, 2001 at the Indian Embassy in Washington as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The magazine will also include general features on travel, investment and property.

30 Indian cos take part in entertainment conference
The Indian entertainment sector was in full strength at the recently held international conference - NATPE - at Las Vegas, US. Over 30 Indian companies and 75 Indian delegates participated in the four-day (January 21 to 24) meet. Among the Indian companies represented at the meet were Zee TV, Reliance Entertainment, Discovery Channel India, Moving Picture Company, UTV, Toonz Animation, Krishna Shah Associates, Dream Factory, First Serve Entertainment, Gala Entertainment, B4U, TV India and the Indian Broadcasting Foundation. Five Indian companies including Eye Circus, Ramoji Film City, Zee TV, Ruby Pictures and Guru Animation even displayed their latest television programmes.
