IBM's Net Gen programme to launch slew of solutions
Kavita Nair
Mumbai: IBM's Net Gen programme launched last year will be introducing various solutions for ISPs, ASPs, telcos, NSPs (Net service providers), portals and e-markets, in addition to e-infrastructure, launched last year. These solutions are based on Web servers which can handle large amounts of HTTP request where speed is of essence and to aid this process, IBM has put in place a new technology called `copper chip'. Mr Sanjay Sharma City Manager Net Generation Business, India says "the high conductive nature of copper in comparison to the silicon wafers gives better performance. This results in faster response time to all the Websites which are running these Web servers." Other solutions that this program offers is in the e-commerce category where IBM provides software offerings such as Websphere and Tivoli, which enable end-to-end management of the network. These programs provide technical support and information to the Net gen customers. The Net Gen ASP and ISP specific programs, for example, have been tailored to help software developers and the ISPs who are considering the ASP model. This provides education, assessment and enablement assistance programs as well as discounted hardware, software and specific financing. Theother solution is integration and consulting, wherein IBM helps a customer design the solution based on the IBM hardware and software and help integrate them as an end-to-end solution. In addition to all this IBM plans on additional marketing features like bundling of products and services. They could, for instance bundle IBM servers with software to aid management, or bundling their Thinkpad and PC with an Internet account in addition to financial incentives through special schemes. Mr Sharma adds that the solutions and the programs would be offered to the Net Gen customer depending on his business model. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
