Prasar Bharati continues to dither on Metro channel slots
More than ten days after opening the financial bid for the late night slots on DD Metro channel, there's no decision on allotting time to any company. According to a DD official, when only a single bid is received, only the Prasar Bharati Board can make a decision. And for no specific reasons, the Prasar Bharati board has been delaying its meeting to deliberate on the bidding issue. Earlier in the month, Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) emerged as the only bidder for the 10:30 to 11:00 p.m. slot on DD Metro. There was no other bidder for this or any other slot. Yahoo! India on Thursday announced it is teaming up with BPL Limited for a Yahoo! India - BPL cobranded Messenger. Starting February 2001, the cobranded instant messenger service will be made available free of charge on a compact disc for purchasers of BPL products at authorised BPL outlets across the country, as well as to BPL employees. The cobranded messenger will also be made available for downloads from the Yahoo! India site (messenger.yahoo.co.in/bpl) and the BPL website (www.bplworld.com).
BSES Telecom to seek approval to lay fibre in south Mumbai
BSES Telecom Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the power major BSES Ltd plans on seeking the government of Maharashtra's permission to lay optic fibre cable network in south Mumbai, in the event that it loses the Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Ltd (BEST) contract. BEST had invited tenders for laying optic fibre cable in the south Mumbai area where it has its power transmission network, in which BTL had participated along with Reliance, Tata Electric Companies, Zee and Enron and three others.
TJ Venkateshwaran new CEO of Junction 96
Junction 96, the national chain of cybercafes on Saturday announced the appointment of Mr T J Venkateshwaran as Chief Operating Officer. The company said that the appointment is part of Junction's strategy to build its current operations, expansion and activities as a marketing channel for Websites and corporates. The new COO will be in-charge of operations through out the country with core responsibilities in the management of the company including the top and bottom line deliverables.
IBM India gets a new country manager for human resources
Mr Robert Danbeck has been appointed country manager, human resources IBM India. In this function, he consolidated human resources from three distinct operating environments (Hong Kong, China and Taiwan) into one cohesive business unit.
The limited mobility curse on valuations

Sony to double-spend on programming
Sony Entertainment Television India Ltd (SET India Ltd) plans to more than double its spending on programming in 2001. The entertainment channel has already devoted around Rs 80 crore to Jeeto Chhapar Phaad Ke (JCPK), including Rs 10 crore in advertising and promotion of the game show.
