JVC to invest Rs 100 cr in first year

Mumbai : Leading audio visual and related software products major, the $8-billion Victor Company of Japan (JVC) has launched hi-fi audio/video systems, portable audio systems, car audio/video systems in the Indian market, this month.

The company has tied-up with Elan Electronics Pvt Ltd (ELAN) for marketing the JVC branded products. EEPL is a Mumbai-based company with its group head quarters at Singapore and a group turnover of $200 million.The products will be marketed through 15 distributors and 200 dealers across major cities.

Says JVC managing director Mr M Otake: "As part of its marketing strategy, the product is targeted at the medium-to-premium end of the market in creating, recording, storing and playback music in personal entertainment, both at home and on the move. With the launch of audio visual products, JVC is being transformed from an audiovisual innovator to a digital systems integrator."

Says ELAN senior vice-president Mr Rakesh Tandan: "Besides, large-scale operations in hardware and software along with innovative technology provides JVC with a competitive advantage in the development of digital systems."

Says JVC general manager (international sales and marketing division) Mr Kenichi Lino: "Backed by these innovations and advanced technology, JVC sees in India an opportunity to expand its global presence and introduce to the Indian market the latest in technology in line with the corporate credo `contributing to culture and serving society'."

JVC proposes to invest Rs 100 crore in a phased manner in the first year and hopes to achieve a marketshare of 15 per cent in the hi-fi segment and 25 per cent in the car audio/video segment.

Adds Mr Tandan: "Looking at the demand for the products, the company will market a number of CTVs, digital cameras, camcorders and home theatre systems in a few months.

JVC is targeting a turnover of Rs 300 crore in the first year of operations. From January to March this year, the products will be available across major cities. Between April and June this year, the products will seek a national presence.
