A cyber@bar overwrites a cyber@cafe

After cyber cafes, it's the turn of cyber bars. The Byte is the first of the block to go live in central Delhi. The Capital's largest restaurant chain, Nirula's, opened its cyber bar, The Byte, recently.

The Byte is actually Nirula's old Chinese Bar refurbished into a new, futuristic avtaar. It occupies a relatively small place that makes it even more intimate in the soft lighting. The bar can accommodate as many as 25 people at one go. But it has only two computer terminals for surfing the Net. So, you can relax with a drink till the time you get your chance for surfing.

Large parts of the walls have mirrors fixed with binary numbers and equations. According to Mr Rahoul B Singh, architect and interior designer of The Byte, who has learnt architecture and fine arts from Rhodes Island School of Design: "I used mirrors for reflection since the bar is a small area. And in keeping with the idea for The Byte, I used binary numbers on the mirrors as well as a big @."

There is also a clever use of frosted glass and mirrors along with different kinds of wood and metals to create a dynamic ambience for those who frequent the place.

Nirula's is, however, planning to start charging money from customers, using the Internet in the cyber bar once the idea picks up and customers start coming in in a larger number. "The charges, of course, will be kept at a reasonable level of Rs 30 per hour," says a spokesperson.
