GRT Grand Days offers `e-Rooms' with broadband

Chennai : GRT Grand Days, a new generation business class hotel in the city, has launched e-Rooms which offer broadband high quality-high speed Internet access. About 48 rooms are equipped with Tut System bifurcaters, using the Digital Subscriber Loop technology (DSL), where the guests can plug in to the telephone line their lap tops to instantly connect with broadband Internet round the clock without interruptions. One of the floors is provided with personal computers for the convenience of those who do not carry laptops, Mr Vikram Cotah, executive manager, told newsmen on Thursday.

GRT has also opened a convention centre designed for the techno-savvy corporate clientele. It has the latest innovations of acoustic and visual appeal suited for the high profile board meetings and large-scale seminars or conferences and has about 10,000 sq ft of banqueting space.e-Rooms have been launched with the technical support of and in financial partenership with Consilnet (India) Pvt. Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of Consilnet Inc, USA, in association with Satyam Infoway.

Consilnet has already provided this service in Park Way Hotel, New Delhi and plans to introduce it in seven more hotels in the country including Quality Inn Aruna, here.

Mr Pankaj G Thakar, director, said his company has strategic tie-ups with leading technological companies world wide for transmission access networking systems like Alcatel, Tut Systems, USA, and MRO-Tek of Bangalore to provide last mile access solutions. ``Our objective is to provide broadband high speed internet access to hotels, corporate houses and multi-storied apartments'', he added.Consilnet invests in the hardware, about Rs 50,000 for each connection, and shares the revenue, about Rs 500 from a day's use, with the hotels. Mr Thakar expects, with at least 10 per cent use, to break-even in 18-24 months.

From June, Consilnet plans to introduce this system in large shopping complexes and corporate in the metros and mini-metros in the country with a nation-wide connectivity deal with Satyam Infoway.
