PSBs branches not to close due to VRS -- Sinha

New Delhi, Feb 23: No branch of any public sector banks (PSBs) would be allowed to be closed as a result of voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) as main objective of the exercise was to improve the efficiency of banking operations, finance minister Yashwant Sinha informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.Replying to a question he said banks have been given instructions to keep the operational efficiency of each branch while implementing the scheme. Sinha said each bank was required to prepare a manpower plan keeping in view their future requirement.He said d VRS would facilitate injecting of new people with new skills.
