Mumbai, Feb 23: The trading activity on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was affected in the last few minutes before the close of the market due to a breakdown in the communication links. Members were unable to receive confirmations for their orders during this period. The NSE brokers suffered a major blow when the VSAT terminals suddenly lost their connectivity and were not restored for quite sometime even after the closing of the trading session.
An analysis indicated that a number of members had got disconnected from the system just prior to this period. The immediate re-logins attempted by the members led to a slowdown of the system. The exchange is analysing the processes to ascertain the cause of the disconnects. The systems were however made available to the members to receive their end-of-the-day downloads for their trade and order activity.
A number of brokers failed to square-off their trades as it happened in the closing hours of the trading session. There are around 3,228 VSATs terminals spread in 401 cities across 23 states.
