SHCIL launches `cash invest' for investments in ALBM

Sujoy Manna
Mumbai, Feb 25: The Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd (SHCIL) has recently launched a new product called "cash-invest" which would enable the high net worth individuals and corporates who are interested in deploying their funds to invest in automated lending and borrowing mechanism (ALBM) session at National Stock Exchange (NSE). Speaking to The Financial Express, SHCIL managing director and chief executive officer BV Goud said: "The response has been encouraging but it is yet to pick up. We also propose to make this facility available for borrowing and lending of securities scheme (BLESS) session at the BSE."

The trade would be put through the broker and settlement responsibility would be taken over by SHCIL in the sense that pay-in and pay-out would be handled by the corporation as is done under Stock Direct, Sell-n-Cash, Equiby and cash on payout. The client would be dealing with SHCIL and the principal and interest would be assured by the same.

The product is specially designed to suite corporates and high networth individuals who have liquid cash locked either in current account and fixed deposits. Since these investments suffer from low interest rates and low liquidity, "cash-invest" can act as a good alternate. Thus "cash invest" would give the investors reasonably reasonably good returns, liquidity and absolute security for the funds.

The product at present is available only in Mumbai and will be made available in all other major cities within short period. The product is expected to attract better response in other cities as such facility is not available. Whenever an investor or a broker takes a long position there are three options available to him. First, investor can square off, secondly, borrow money and make payment and lastly can postpone settlement. ALBM enables the investor to postpone the settlement by allowing him to borrow in the market. The investor can sell shares to a person who is giving the money with a tacit understanding that the investor will buyback the shares in the next settlement.

It is here, the product "cash-invest" plays its role by giving a safe investment opportunity to corporates and high networth individuals through lending money in ALBM.
