`Capital market must be driven by small investors'
Our Markets Bureau
Mumbai, Feb 25: If the Indian capital market is to be made safe, then it is high time that small investors begin to drive it and leave no place for substandard promoters and investors. Speaking on the subject of 'Merchant Banking in the New Millennium at a Seminar,' Association of Merchant Bankers of India (Amfi) chief executive officer TR Ramaswami said, "We are moving towards an era when substandard promoters wanting to earn a fast buck are being tempted by substandard investors. These would have to be driven away from the market by the regulator. Small and sincere investors would instead drive the market.""Too many regulations and regulators are not what we need in India," he said. When a new regulator is born, new regulations are also implemented without keeping in mind the time-frame." Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
