Govt spend on IT to boost domestic sales
More domestic moolah for IT withdepartments such as provident fund, pension, pay and accounts offices,passports, income tax, customs, and central excise to be fully computerisedby March 31, 2002. PSU banks are also being asked to complete theircomputerisation within this period.Says Mr Manoj Chug, president India and SAARC, Cisco Systems: "Thecomputerisation of a mid-size bank requires over $10 million. Hence, if onemultiples this amount by the sectors in which such changes have beenproposed, the potential for hardware and specifically the networkingindustry is immense."
