New Delhi, March 4 : Global it major Sun Microsystems will cut prices of its servers, and workstations by up to 2.5 per cent, as a direct fallout of the budget announcement made by the finance minister."We will have a board meeting this week to announce the price cuts which would be in the range of 1.75 per cent to 2.5 per cent for workstations, servers and workgroups," a company official said.
The server major will effect the price cut following Mr Sinha's announcement in Budget 2001-02 to cut customs duty on specified telecom and IT products to 15 per cent and withdrawal of 10 per cent surcharge. The company official said the total duty inclusive of basic import duty, countervailing duty (CVD) and the four per cent special additional duty (SAD) was 41 per cent which would come down to 35 per cent due to a net duty reduction effect of 6 per cent. Notwithstanding the budget, the company remains bullish on Indian market, the official said adding Sun was in the process of implementing the focus plan for India announced last month.
