New Delhi, March 4: The government may consider evolving new performance indices to judge the country's prosperity. The prime minister's task force for developing a knowledge-based society, which is to submit its report this month, has observed that existing performance indices, including gross domestic product (GDP) and the import-export ratio was not adequate to judge the nation's performance in a knowledge-driven society.New performance indices need to be evolved for evaluating the strength and sustainability of a knowledge-driven society, the 13-member task force headed by Planning Commission deputy chairman KC Pant has suggested. The committee includes national scientific adviser APJ Abdul Kalam, CSIR director general RA Mashelkar and Infosys chairman NR Narayan Murthy.
According to sources, the task force has also recommended the setting up of a Cabinet Committee for Knowledge Society (CCKS) for implementing the task of national transformation to a knowledge society and superpower in a decade.
