Pune: Indra Networks Private Limited has received a total investment of $1 million from Intel Capital and an independent investor, Vikram Modak for developing a Web accelerator that improves response time of busy Websites. A new special purpose VLSI chip, is under development at Indra Networks that will do some of the work 20 times more faster than a typical Web server. Indra Networks was founded by Dr Anupam Bhide and Monish Shah and is focused on the next generation of Internet infrastructure equipment. Indra is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Indra Networks Inc, USA with its principal office in Santa Clara. "The product development is being done entirely in Pune," Dr Bhide said. "The design for the chip is ready and the prototype will be ready in a couple of months. The target is to launch the chip by end of the year," Bhide added. Indra's revenue projections is $10,000,000 in year 2001, with a 20 per cent marketshare and $17,500,000 revenue if the market share goes to 35 per cent. Dr Bhide, who was earlier with IBM and Oracle, is the CEO of Indra while Mr Shah who was with HP and later consulted for Tiara Networks, San Jose, is the chief technology officer of Indra Networks.
Vikram Modak, the independent investor spent 15 years with Intel and is currently a consultant for technology companies. Mr Shah said, Indra Network's Web accelerator will combine the existing technology of Web cache and request combiner with some new ones to be developed by them to come out with a new product. Potential customers will be Web-based e-mail providers, search engines, B2B/B2C/C2C sites, ISPs, etc.
