New Delhi, March 13 : The State Trading Corporation (STC) has clinched a major deal with Russia to supply about 5.5 lakh tonne of wheat this year, helping India to achieve its target of exporting two million tonne by April 2001."On the basis of competitive pricing and meeting qualitative specifications, India has been able to clinch a deal for supplying 5.5 lakh tonne wheat to Russia, and the cumulative Indian wheat exports are expected to touch two million tonne next month," official sources said. They said the contract with Russia was in the offing and materialised after the details on the pricing and delivery were settled to the satisfaction of both parties. Wheat would be supplied at the ex-FCI price of Rs 4150 per tonne with additional miscellaneous charges working out to be around Rs 550 per tonne.
In dollar terms, Indian offer of approximately $92 per tonne was competitive enough, and with freight and transportation charges, it would cost about 100-102 dollars per tonne, they said.
