Karvy Consultants starts mobile service

Our Markets Bureau
Hyderabad, March 13: Keeping pace with the times, the Hyderabad-based Karvy Consultants Ltd (KCL) has launched its first mobile service, christened `M-Investor', facilitating mutual fund investors to have the latest updates on mutual funds, including "net asset values" and latest unit balances of the funds it is managing.

The service initially covers Hyderabad and is extended only for the cell phone users of Tata Cellular. "We are planning to extend the service to other centers also," C Parthasarathy, chairman and managing director, Karvy Consultants, said here on Tuesday. The company has already had talks with "Orange" in Mumbai and the Maharashtra region and the service will commence soon, he added.

KCL has plans to extend to five more cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata in about three months' time frame.

"We are negotiating with cellular service providers in other cities," Mr Parthasarathy said.

The cellular subscriber can draw information regarding the NAVs of the mutual funds, latest unit balances of mutual fund investment services by Karvy and current value of their holdings. The information seeker has to register with Karvy.com using the cell phone which will provide the account number and password.

KCL, the largest registrar and merchant banker, has large presence in most of the delivery channels, including kiosks, web, mobile, call centers, stock exchanges.

"Our aim is to provide the entire spectrum of financial products and services under one roof," Mr Parthasarathy said.
