TCS, Wipro and HP bid for govt's stake in CMC Ltd
Leading IT companies Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro and Hewlett Packard besides host of other global players have bid for buying controlling stake from government in IT giant CMC. "Three infotech companies TCS, Wipro and HP have submitted expression of interest for picking up government's stake in CMC," sources said. Rediff.com India Limited has announced the completion of its acquisition of a privately held, Illinois-based online communications company, Value Communications Corporation. Rediff.com India Limited paid $3,000,000 in up front consideration as part of a two-year "earn-out" deal to the shareholders of Value Communications Corporation.
Pagepoint, Net2phone in pact
HFCL group company Pagepoint Service (India) on Tuesday announced its alliance with US-based Net2phone for providing pre-paid phone cards to international travellers and students studying abroad. "The inter-call prepaid card targeted at an estimated four million outbound international travellers from the country, would be available in various denominations starting from $3-20. As per the reserve bank of India (RBI) regulations, the card cannot be used from India," Deepak Malhotra, chairman-cum-managing director of Pagepoint, said.
Portal on company law and Sebi floated
Indiaallinfo.com Ltd on Tuesday announced the launch of its portal `Companylawinfo.com', with focus on company law and Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). The objective of the site is to be an online ready reference for professionals like company secretaries, chartered accountants, lawyers, management consultants and directors of a company or entrepreneurs, Indiaallinfo.com director Narayan Jain told reporters in Kolkata.
Dell tops in workstation shipments in Asia-Pacific
Dell has emerged on top for branded personal workstation shipments in the combined region of Asia Pacific and Japan in Q4 with 28.8 per cent unit shipment market share, according to IDC. In India, Dell was placed in the the second spot in the branded personal workstation market.
VIA to launch PC, set-top box reference designs
VIA Technologies Inc on Tuesday announced it would launch a new information Personal Computer (PC) and set-top box reference design based on its compact motherboard. The new motherboard, information PC and the set top box reference designs would enable creation of new generation of PCs and digital PC appliances, VIA Technologies has said.

AMGF Intercorp to launch TV channel this year
AMGF Intercorp Ltd has tied up with MK Associates of Muscat to launch its entertainment channel am2pm. The channel will be launched in the second half of 2001. MK Associates already has investments in the entertainment industry. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 15 crore and the fund was raised through private placement of equity last year. AMGF has also launched a film-based portal called Bollywoodtalks.com.
