Nabard assistance touches Rs 1,538 crore in 2000-01

Bangalore, April 3: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard's) assistance for agriculture, allied activities, rural and infrastructure development and micro-credit has touched Rs 1,538 crore during 2000-2001. Nabard's Bangalore region chief general manager SM Mehta told reporters that short term credit of Rs 841 crore was sanctioned last year and a 10-15 per cent growth over this was expected this year. He said that Nabard expected credit requirements of Rs 6,000 crore in 2001-2002 and it would come out with annual action plans in about a week.Under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) programme, 3.23 lakh cards involving financial assistance of Rs 708 crore, were issued by the cooperative banks and regional rural banks (RRBs), Mr Mehta said.Nabard has been successful in mobilising Rs 1,500 crore under the "Capital Gains Bonds Scheme".
