Coke account team also shifts to McCann

Pummy Kaul
New Delhi: Having lobbied hard and unsuccessfully to keep the Coke business with Leo Burnett in India, Coca-Cola India has now managed to get the team on the account on its side.

In the latest twist to the controversial movement of the Rs 35-crore Coca-Cola brand account, Mr Viren Razdan, vice-president, Leo Burnett has moved to McCann Erickson. Ms Bipasha Bannerjee, creative director, Leo Burnett is also believed to follow suit soon. Mr Razdan and Ms Bannerjee were servicing the coveted Coke account at Leo Burnett.

Mr Razdan who has worked on the Coke account for the last two-and-half years at Leo Burnett, alongwith Ms Bannerjee will service the Coke account at McCann Erickson, too. While Mr Razdan who put in his papers at Leo Burnett last week joined McCann as vice-president, this week. Ms Bannerjee is expected to join the new agency soon.

Apart from these two, the key players on the Coke account will now be Mr Nikhil Nehru (president), Mr Santosh Desai (executive vice-president) and Mr Sanjay Nayak (senior vice-president and general manager) besides Mr Sorab Mistry, chairman and CEO, McCann-Erickson India.

Coke moved the Rs 35-crore Coca-Cola brand in India twice in a month. A month after the beverage giant appointed Lintas to handle its communications business in India, the company once again moved the Coke account to McCann-Erickson, removing Lintas from Coca-Cola's consideration.

While Coke officially said that it happened as part of the global realignment-internationally, it was the Interpublic Group that pitched for and won the Coke business. In India, the Interpublic Group is represented by five agencies-McCann, Lowe Lintas, Enterprise Nexus, SSC&B and Quadrant Communications.

Interestingly, it was McCann which launched Coke in India.
