Chronicling the adventures of The Man Who Always Wore a Watch.
Story and illustrations by Arpana Caur

From his Birth, his mother heard him ticking in her womb.   Mother looks at the clock and only then gives him food.   Father looks at the clock and only then drives him to school.

The Teacher turns the hand of the clock FASTER, so that the class should end sooner.   Days come and go, with loads of HOMEWORK FAR into the night, hour upon hour.   He meets his GIRL at the bus stand every day. Both look at their watches when they meet. Both look at their watch when they leave.

One day he is five minutes LATE and finds her with another guy, who is more punctual than him.   He is five minutes late for work, one day, and finds another employed in his place, at his desk.   He Throws The watch into the sea. A Mermaid comes up and snatches it. He has never seen such a thing before. Such a lovely fishwoman!

He sits by the shore, looking towards the waves, WAITING for her to re-emerge.   He has forgotten Time and Time has forgotten him. It seems only yesterday that he had glimpsed HER FACE.   He sees water flow, flowers bloom, clouds float and fish swim.

This is an exclusive reproduction of
Arpana Caur’s latest book, which she has herself published recently. The material used is gouache on paper.
He sees the Seasons change. He never had the Time to look at the sky or the trees or the moon, and her reflection, Before.   He turns into a child once more, in a timeless world freed of the laws of Time And is soaked in the rain of eternal Love.
